Power, Distinction, Display: Excavating Elites

View With Virtual Reality

The three main social network visualizations in "Excavating Elites" are available to view in virtual reality (VR).

WebVR

WebVR allows a variety of VR headsets to explore web-based visualizations. If you have a Google Cardboard, this is a good place to start. WebVR also is the basis for viewing the visualizations with an HTC Vive or other VR device.

Mobile Devices:

To use WebVR with an Android smartphone and Google Daydream or Cardboard, you will also need to install Chrome Canary as a mobile browser. Follow these instructions. Once you have installed the browser and enabled the necessary flags (as indicated in the instructions), follow the links below.

To view on a mobile device, you will need to load the "desktop" version of the webpage in Chrome Canary, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen, select "Desktop site," and wait for the page to reload. Once it has reloaded, touch the VR viewer icon in the bottom right to launch the VR experience.

Dedicated VR Equipment (HTC Vive, etc.):

If you have access to a VR headset, WebVR also powers this method as well. Simply turn on your headset and related software, and then navigate in the Mozilla Firefox browswer to the links below. Other browsers may work as well; click here to find out more.

The links will open in a new full-screen window. As with the mobile devices, click the VR viewer icon in the bottom right to launch the VR experience.
